One of Dogecoin’s most well-known developers, Ross Nicoll, quit the cryptocurrency meme coins developer team. The burden connected with transforming the project from a memecoin to a cryptocurrency with more utility, according to Nicoll, is “overwhelming.”

Dogecoin is a well-known memecoin in the cryptocurrency world, with an all-time high (ATH) in May 2021. It not only set a new record in 2021, but it also caught the eye of billionaire entrepreneur Elon Musk.

Elon Musk, who stated his goal to make Dogecoin more than a memecoin, is responsible for most of the cryptocurrency’s recent activity. This has led to the online release of a project roadmap, which is the first time since Dogecoin‘s debut in December 2013 that the project has had one.

The project is also receiving backing from Vitalik Buterin, the founder of Ethereum, who will assist the Dogecoin team in transitioning from a Proof-of-Work consensus mechanism to a more sustainable and scalable Proof-of-Stake consensus mechanism.

According to Nicoll, transforming the initiative into something more than a memecoin is impossible. As a result, he has decided to resign as one of the project’s senior developers and delegate his responsibilities to the Dogecoin Foundation.

Nicoll has claimed, however, that he will facilitate a smooth transition for the project after his leave by remaining on board as an advisor until the project can continue without him.
