According to the most recent data, China is the leading source of blockchain patent applications, accounting for 63 percent.

In the face of blockchain technology, the situation in China, which has prohibited cryptocurrencies and their use, is genuinely perplexing.

The statistics published by the Shanghai daily China Securities Network, saying that China has the highest number of patent applications connected to blockchain, is the most recent proof.

In terms of particular numbers, there are approximately 55,000 blockchain patent applications filed by about 7,800 organizations worldwide. About 33,000 of these patents originate in China, accounting for roughly 63 percent of all applications.

With major firms like Alipay, Ping An Property, and Tencent, China comfortably ranks #1. Alipay submitted 7000 patent applications, Ping An submitted 4000, and Tencent submitted 2000.

Patent applications linked to blockchain technology began to increase significantly after 2015, with the most substantial increase occurring after 2018.
